Newborn Home Visiting
Criterion sponsors two Healthy Families newborn home visiting programs. One program is located in Framingham, the other in Milford.
Healthy Families is a prevention program for first time parents under the age of 21. Young parents are provided with support, information on child development and assistance accessing community resources, until their child reaches the age of three.
Services are provided primarily in the home of participants. All those involved in the young child’s life; mother, father, grandparents, aunts and uncles are included in program activities. In addition to home visits, families participate in group social activities such as holiday celebrations, field trips and monthly dinners.
Healthy Families staff work closely with medical providers, school systems and other community based agencies to coordinate services for program participants.
They are able to assist families to access basic necessities such as; food, shelter and medical care. Transportation to appointments and program activities is provided when none is available.
Many young mothers enrolled in the Healthy Families Programs, participate in “MELD for Young Moms” (MYM). MYM groups meet weekly to provide opportunities for mothers of diverse lifestyles and experiences to come together to learn, care and share ideas with others. MYM blends information and support to ensure confident and competent parenting.
Both the Healthy Families and MELD Programs are supported through grants from the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund. There are no fees to program participants.
